ARE YOU ON THE LOCAL BODY ROLLS BEING PREPARED FOR 1965 ELECTIONS?

Between raow and June 25, residents should eiisure that they are on the electoral roll of their local authority in preparation for the municipal and county elections on Octoher 9. Ratepayers will be automatically placed on the electoral rolls but this is no guarantee that the ratepayer's wife, or husband, as the case may be, or others with resi.den.tial qualifications, will appear on the roll. Parliament a r y r o 1 ls should not be confused with local body rolls. There is no connection or liaison between the two, and separate application for enrolment has to be made for each. The assistant town clerk, Mr R. D. Sinton, will start checking the Taupo borough roll soon and will endeavour to see that as many people

as possible with the necessary qualifications are on it. The onus is on the electors themselves to see that their naine is on the ivoII. Returning officers have no way of knowing, apart from their personal knowledge, who have residential qualifacations and who have not. Any person over 21 years of age, not a ratepayer, but who has resided in the borough for not less than three months, has a residential qualification. The fact that a person was on the roll at the last

election is no guarantee that he will be on the roll j for the coming election, If he did not vote at the last election, it could be assumed he is no longer living in Taupo and his name could be purged from the roll. Persons who turned 21 years of age since the 1962 local body elections should make application for enrolment. Everyone with the necessary qualifications is required by law to apply for enrolment and should do so before the main roll closes on June 25. The supplementary roll closes 011 September 9 and is generally meant for those persons who become qualified for enrolment after the main roll is closed,
