WAIRAKEI SOCCER TEAM BEATEN ON SUNDAY
In a closely-contested game, Wairakei Soccer Club's team went down to Greerton Rovers 3 goals to 2 at Wairakei on Sunday. The game was played in
perfect weather "and good football was seen on both sides. Greerton was the first to score when J. Jamieson shot from close in. Wairakei soon came equal with a nice shot from centre-for-ward, T. Barke. By half-time the score was 1-all and indicated the evenness of the two teams. In the second half, W. Christie put the Wairakei team ahead when he broke through the Greerton 'keeper. Jamieson went in for his second goal to make the score 2-all. Greerton made use of the sun and it was not long before the score became 3 — 2 when L. Tester lobbed the ball over 'keeper Booth's head. In the closing stages of the game, Wairakei came close to scoring and when the whistle blew for full time they were still on the attack.
