PUBLIC OPINION

Taupo Golf Club Property Sir, — In your issue of 11th May you published a report of proceedings of a meeting of the Taupo Borough Council and discussion which took place concerning the question of the discharge of surface water on to the Taupo golf course. During this discussion, the Town Clerk is reported to have stated that "the Club operated on Council land which it leased." This statement has caused many readers to gain the impression that the land is owned by the Borough, but this is not the case. In actual fact, the land is the property of the Crown from whom it is leased by the Club. The lease is merely administered by the Taupo Domain Board, which is, in effect, the Borough Council. I trust that this letter will clarify the position regarding the land in question. — I am, etc., GARTH MARSLAND, Club Captain, Taupo Golf Club.
