SUGGESTED SUPPLEMENT TO ENCOURAGE TOURISTS
A supplement, designed to attract tourists to Taupo during the winter season, has been suggested by Taupo Chamber of Commerce to Wellington's two daily newspapers, the Dominion and the Evening Post. In letters from the two papers read to the Chamber at its meeting on Wednesday, the papers said September would be themost satisfactory time to run the supplements. It was the feeling of the meeting that national newspaper advertising was the best medium for reaching the people outside the district who may wish to come to Taupo in times other than the holiday peaks. A member said armies of advertising men came through Taupo each week but their advertisements failed to bring people to
the town. He said some of the advertisements sold were for around clocks and on hook covers. A number of members agreed that outside advertising should be discouraged during the summer as the influx of people did not warrant it. It was thought that individual advertising should give way to combined resources, to be used t,o pay for the supplements. To determine the best month of the year in which to encourage tourists to come to Taupo, some members suggested compiling a meteorological report over the course of a year.
