MONEY - MAKING SCHEMES FOR CLUBHOUSE URGENT
Money-making schemes . for the Taupo Yaeht Club huilding fnnd have been slow in coming from mehibers, but there is a gradual awakening to the urgency and magnitude of the clubhouse project. Tenders are now out for the erection of the clubhouse and the first work in preparing the site has begun. A working bee, comprising club members, has cleared pine trees from the area and a bulldozer was on the site last week clearing away debris and levelling the section. Taupo yachtsmen think that the building of the clubhouse will mean a big asset to the club and provide suitable h.eadquarters for future yachting events. Every year approaches are made to the club to act as host to New Zealand championships for various classes. To date several very successful national contests have been held, but catering for and entertaining large numbers of visitors has been difficult through the lack of a clubhouse.
Until the time when thej clubhouse is built, thej organising committee will | adopt' the policy of only in- ! viting numerically smaller j
classes for yachting events to Taupo. At present the committee is making tentative inquiries on behalf of the
club to hold national championships for Flying Fifteens, 12ft. catamarans and 12ft. cherubs here next season.
