Taupo Rugby club scored its be,st win of the season on Saturday at the Domain when it beat Tihoi 22 points to 6 in a game which had several exciting moments of opportunist breaks. Taupo fullback G. Furlong played an outstanding game using mighty torpedo kicks for touch and displayed coolness under pressure. Two speedster tries by P. Hobdell and good steady work by P. Johnson, L. Balmforth, L. Draper, J. Skeen and R. Darlington,
helped Taupo gain an ascendancy over a team which was beaten at its own tactics on the day. Taupo's points were scored by P. Hobdell two tries L. Balmforth one try and P. Johnson one try. G. Furlong two conversions and a penalty. L. Balmforth one penalty. United 17, Maraetai 3 United led Maraetai 5 — 3 with only 22 minutes to go, but a final all-out effort by the town team cracked on 14 points m as many minutes. Too much indecisive kicking, untidy set movements, and rambling looseness in the forwards made most of the play rather scrappy. United's backline looks to be a competition winner, but has not really shone this season as in past years.
