IDLE ALONGS, CHERUBS CONSIDERED BEST SAILERS FOR TAUPO
Tlie sailing division of the Lake Taupo Yacht Club, after a long discussion 011 the merits of various sailing craft, decided at its last . meeting that Idle Alongs and Cherubs were both suitable for use oit the lake. Idle Alongs are 12ft 8in. and Che* rubs 12ft. Second-hand Idle Alongs are available fairly cheaply. They are a "family" type of boat to accommodate four, and are useful for racing, especiall.v in conditions which prevail on Lake Taupo. A local builder who is a member of the club, has an Idle Along under construction for his own use. He has offered club members suitable timber at cost, and the free use of his worksliip 011 Saturclays. The Cherub is a cheaper and smaller craft, and like the Idle Along is suitable for home construction. Satisfactory, Safe Plans and specifications of both types of yacht are available without cost to club members. Mr Don McLeod, who has had considerable experience on Lake Taupo, lias told the club that Tapuaeharuru Bay will make a satisfactory and sale area for small craft. Following the practice elsewhere, the committee has decided that life-jackets should be carried in boats at all times, and that during races a crash-boat will always be in attendance. Labour Day, October 25, will be the opening day of the season. The committee expects that several members of the Rotorua Yacht Club will bring their boats over. As far as the Taupo club is concerned, it hopes to start the season with five Idle Alongs, a Cherub, and two Frostbites.
