ROSS SHIELD TEAM THIS YEAR SHOWS EXCELLENT FORM

Taupo's Ross Sliield primary scliools rugby team had a trial run against a High School team last Saturday, and acquitted themselves well by notching a 19-3 win. They are to take part in the sliield tournament at Waipukurau on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday of next week. Those in the team are: Tokaanu: II. Downs, P. Biddle, J. Te Hangi, M. Biddle. Tauranga-Taupo : D. Biddle, T. Hemara, M. Pitiroi, S. Rameka. Waitahanui: I. Karaitiana. Orounui : L. Hay. Rotomoho : T. Gardner. Taupo : J. Rakatau, M. Chase, E. Hunia, D. Smitli, R. Chase, E. Smith, P. Pitiroi, J. Dallington. Those who scored on Saturday were R. 'Chase (2), J. Rakatau, P. Pitiroi and D. Biddle tries eacli, and M. Chase and I). Biddle conversioiis. R. Rutane scored a try for High School. R. Chase was the best back on the field. He scored two tries, both resulting from determined running. The inside combination, Pitiroi, Chase and Rakatau, sliowed signs of promise, and T. Gardner may prove a deceptive three-quarter. . Of the forwards, the locks, P. Pitiroi and E. Smith, and the breakaway, D. Smith, all deserve praise for tlieir honest toiling and following-up. All in all, tliere was the nucleus of a good team in this year's Ross Sliield j representatives. With more contidenee, improved rucking, and harder running among ihe backs, they, may do well. The team returns from Waipukurau to Taupo on Friday, August 30.
