MANGAKINO TAKES SPA CUP AT LOCAL BASKETBALL TOURNEY

Last Saturday the Taupo Basketball Association held a successful field day. The teams competing were Mangakino, Putaruru senior reserve, Tokoroa and Taupo. The standard of play was higli, considering the slippery surface of the courts. Mangakino fielded a strong team, their forward combination far outclassing their opponents. Their scoring ranged from 24 to 40, an indication of good field play and accurate goaling. Mrs F. Reid had tlie difficult task of selecting a combined team to play against the Putaruru representatives. To judge from the game, the representative team seemed particularly weak in their defence area, tliough the centres and forwards were strong, both 011 attack and defence. At the end of the afternoon Mrs G. MT. Foote presented the unbeaten Mangakino team with tlie Spa Cup. Results : Putaruru 17 Taupo 14, Tokoroa 23 Putaruru 21, Mangakino 10 Taupo 9, Mangakino 24 Tokoroa 10. Taupo 19 Tokoroa 18, Mangakino 30 Putaruru 13, Putaruru representatives 25 Combined 17. Draw for Saturday: Senior : 2 p.m. Taupo v High School A (Mrs Reid) eourt 1; 2.30 p.m. Spa v High School B (Mi's Fowler) court 2. Grounds : Higli Scliool B. Tliere are 110 junior games. There will not be any local matches during tlie school liolidays.
