HEDGING IN TAUPO
Sir, — Goriceriimg your last week's article on suifable hedging for Taupo, your readers may find the following iul'oriuai i(»n helpful. 1 ieeause of tlie heavy losses through blight of Lawsoniana in tlie Waikato and other districts, the Department of Agriculture is now trying to find a suitable substitute. The needs of tliose who want this type of shelter would be better met by Thuyaplicata. Phebalium often does well as single speciniens in Taupo, but we do not know of any sueeessful hedge. Our own experience, and tliat of some otliers, has been tliat tlie new growtb gets cnl by our late and out-of-season frostx. Loeation should be the deciding -factor with this excellent hedge, and if any of your readers liave estaldislied it satisfactorily, they would be doing a service if they were to make the details available.
