TAUPO'S FIRST MAINS FOR WATER SCHEME IN RIFLE RANGE ROAD
THIS vveek has seen the beginning of pipe-laying in the first section of Taupo's water-reticulation scheme, which embraces the Paraohape Street-Wheretia Street-Rifle Range Road area. In most instances, the mains will be laid about eight feet from section boundaries. The work began at the lakefront encl of Iiilile Range Road last Monday. A few clays before a circular was sent to all persons ]iving in tlie first-section area. Within 24 hours after tlie circular left tlie bo rough ofliee, 110 fewer than seven applications were received. Scale of Charges This is what the circular, sent oiit % the town clerk, Mr K. G. Winton, said : "I ain directed by the council to advise you that a contract has ben let for tlie laying of the first section of tlie borough water-supply reticulation, and that the main will be laid :in your street shortly. "If you make applieation for ihe supply before the main is laid in your ! street, then arrangements will be made ! for a connection to be put in, while laying is in progress, to serve your property. "In aecordance with the practijce elsewhere, a charge will be made for the laying of tlie service to your boundary. The charge will be £9 10s for a half-inch domestic service, and £15 for commercial or industrial. Rebate Allowed
"Ilowever*, if you make applieation and pay the appropriate l'ee at least two days before laying begins in your street, the council will make a rebate of £2 10s a connection in the service charge." For that fee the council will instnll the service to the street frontage, and place a stopcock and containing-box just inside tlie boundary. The fee for commercial and industrial connections includes the cost of a meter. Piping from that point is the consumer's responsibility.
