Disappointing Display

By United

After last weekend's match it is elear that Taupo will be in the final to meet Tongariro for the Knockout Cup. United's form was most disappointing. M. Hurae, a promoted junior, was the most consistent player on the field, and he received support from J. Habih and A. Grey. The rest of the team gave indifferent* displays. Whiri Rakei, a past-master at kicking for the liiie, seems to know of no other place to kick. On that form United has not a cliance of pulling off the game. Strange as it may seem, United have uever let Taupo roinp over them, and it appears that the tougher the opposition the better do United go. Using this as a guide it would appear that United will be all out to down Taupo and so enter the finals tliemselves. These patcliy players can coinbine well when they want to, and next Saturday may be their day on. LUCKY PICKUP Taupo have suffered oue or two losses th rough the season, but they have been lucky to pick up McAllister, the

Te Puke representative winger. Given a loose game they will be hard to beat, but if United can keen tlie game tiglit, then they will have to work hard to gain a victory. Balmforth will be playing for the Hawke's Bay Maoris at Wellington, and there may yet be oue or two more selected. Taupo, therefore appears as if it may be struggling for players. Whichever way it goes, it should be ti first class game. The curtain-raiser to this game will be provided by the Taupo and Mangakino District High Scbools, which promises to be very even, with tlie pendulum swinging Taupo's way. Bright, open Rugby is the keynote of these two schools, and provided the weather is fine, sucli a game should be witnessed. The Taupo District High School intend to take their first XV on tour to Auckland Grammar School and to St Stephen's College during the following week, and the match here will give ari indication of how they will fare. To raise funds for tliis tour the school has been granted the gate by the uiiioii, and they also intend to hold a fair on the grounds.
