29 RAURIMU SCHOLARS VISIT TAUPO FOR INTER-SCHOOLS GAMES

Two .teachers and 20 pupils arrived j from Raurimu last Tlrarsday for a two-day visit to Taupo. In the afternoon Rugby ancl basketball games were j played, at both of which Taupo was victorious. When these interchanges lirst took plaee in 1953 the two schools xmoved even. At tliat stage the Taupo roll was • 53 and Raurimu's 09. Each year has seen ari evenness of teams ti.ll this year, when the seores were 28 to 8 at Rugby and 23 to 5 at basketball. The Taupo roll now starids at 139, but the Raurimu roll remains in the 60's. In future years it will be the Taupo seeond teams to meet the visitors. Oii Thursday night the staff and prefects of the local school lield a soeia.1 to entertain the visitors. A very successfui evening was earried along by M. Nelson as M,C. 8 upper arrangements were capabJy handled by F. Balmforth, II. Rewa and R. Booth. The music was provided by Mrs Wiliiarrie, Messrs Williams, Kapua and OI ark. A scenic tour had been arranged for the Friday morninpi which covered Aratiatia Rapids, Wairakei geothermal area, Huka Falls, and the new liigl school on 8 pa Road. The tour was eonducted by Mr M. Nicholas. At midday tbe visitors left for Raurimu. The staff and prefects desire to thank all those who provided billets and ineals, and those who provided eakee for the social.
