HAWKE'S BAY IS SURPRISED AT LOCAL HOCKEY
Excellent liockey was seen in the men's and women's representative games between Napier and Taupo last Saturday. A member of the , Hawke's Bay Hockey Association said afterward that he was astonished at the generally high standard of play here. The visiting women's team defeated Taupo by two goals to one, and the two men's teams shared the honours in a three-all draw. For most of the second half in the women's match, the home side was continually on the attack, and were unlucky on three occasions in the circle. There was some outstanding hockey in the men's match, especially the first goal scored by H. Karitiana for Taupo, from an acute angle on the left wing. Throughout this game there was clean, hard, fast play. Affiliation Question In the evening the visitors were entertained at Nukuhau. An interesting film was shown, and the remainder of the evening was spent in dancing. Members of the Hawke's Bay Hockey Association discussed affiliation with members of the local executive. Since Taupo is in the Waikato area, arrangements were made to have the Hawke's Bay boundary extended, so that Taupo could be included. The visitors said that when better grounds became available here, the standard of hockey should improve considerably. This Saturday two Taupo representative teams will play Mangakino at Mangakino.
