Pump-Station Being Built On Lakefront
Many people must have wonderec! about the work being clone 011 the lake foreshore at the foot of Kaimanawa Road and Rifie Range Road; it is the begimiing of the pomping-station and intake niain for the munieipal waterworks scheme. At present the rouncil is laying the fotindations of a breakwater, to protect the ha.se of the pumping-station from erosion. Acording to the town clerk, Mr K. G. Winton, tlie eouneil lias learned from a Government sonrce wh.it are the proposals regarding Iake-levels. so that the work now being done 011 tlie foreshore was started in tlie right plaee. ABOVE HIGH WATER He said the station would be well above high-water mark. Meanwhile, the contractors are getting ahead with the reservoir, wliich is loeated off the end of Hinemoa Avenue. They are under penalty to complete the job by tlie end of November, tnit are aliead of it. Gicen.go.od weather, the reservoir should be finished before due date. Tenders closed last Tuesday night for the laying of pipes in the first section of the water-retieulation scheme, wliich embraces an area bounded by Paoraliape and Wheretia Streets, Rifle Range Road, and the lakefront. BOROUGH FINANCE That contract also must be conipleted by the end of November. All. tlie valves are in siore at the couneil yard. Oue batch of pipes is already at hand ,and anotlier wliich landed at Auckland a few days ago should ar- | rive at Taupo this week. In answer to a (j uestion, Alr Winton said that the financial position of the •borough was such that the couneil expected to complete tlie remaining reticulation without delay. If nothing untoward occiirs, therefore, the wliole of Taupo borough should be reticulated by tlie end of the next year.
