Delightful Concert By Andrew Gold, Pamela Woolmore

What the audience lacked in numbers at the presentation of a programme by Andrew Gold, tenor, his wife, Pamela Woolmore, soprano, and their accompaniste, Tui McLeod, at the Memorial Hall last Monday night was compensated for in the enthusiasm with which the numbers were received. Three years before the two singers had delighted Taupo concert-goers ! with versatility and ease. On Monday night the pleasant memories of their programme in 1954 were refreshed and reinforced. Characteristically, they opened with the telephone song, as the public know it, a delightful little trifle which

never fails to please an audience. From that the singers merged smoothly with snippets from operas, both Italian and German, and some charming numbers by Purcell and Gay-Austin. Tui McLeod's accompanlments, as all accompaniments should, were discreet contributions, and her solo numbers, though a trifle technical to the untutored ear, were very well received. It was unfortunate that this Community Arts Service concert followed so closely upon the heels of the Poul Gnatt Ballet Company. That and the wet night no doubt accounted for the very small audience.
