CRICKET NOTES
The Taupo Cricket Club won its first match against the new Rerewhakaitu settlement when the Reporoa Club kindly lent its ground for the match last week-end. Rerewhakaitu batted first and Nathoo drew first blood for Taupo by bowling Campbell in his second over. Thereafter, only G. Rowe, who batted soundly for 29, and Buckingham, who was run out for 15, made anything against the attacks of Reynolds, who in. 10 overs took five for 18, and of Jack Nathoo, whose nine overs gave him three wickets at a cost of only five runs. The ninth wicket fell to a fine catch by Dudley Johnson off Graham West, and the innings closed for a total of 62. Taupo lost two wickets for seven runs, but Reynolds and Roberts effected a recovery with a partnership of 62. Reynolds and Sam McKean put on a further 36 before Reynolds reached his 50, af ter a wellplayed innings in which his most effective strokes were hooks. A further partnership of 27 between Sam and Frank McKean took the score to 134. Rowe then took four quick wickets, and Johnson declared the innings closed with the total at 136 for nine.
