The river scene shows the steamer "Tongariro," downstream from the present wharf, on the day she was launched in 1901. Moored at the bank is Capt. Dan Ferney's steamer "Tauhara," which earlier carried cargo between Taupo and Tokaanu. At bottom, Taupo s first motor mail coach, a Daimler car with which the late Mr Russell B. Graham inaugurated a service between Taupo and Rotorua.
