Christmas at Hotel Wairakei

Mr R. W. Marshall, general manager of the Government Tourist Department, stated recently that a Press Association report that the Wairakei Hotel had had only 80 guests for Christmas dinner compared with 180 in 1954 was entirely misleading. The report omitted to mention that these were merely the casual guests. To the figure mentioned had to be added tbe entire list of resident guests at the hotel. The message also referred to comments by tourist "experts" that there had been "a big swing from hotel holidays to motor camping." Mr Marshall surmised that the "experts" were probably "armchair experts."
