VALEDICTORY

Mr and Mrs E. F. Wright There was an attendance of some three hundred residents of Taupo and district at a social evening and dance held in the War Memorial Hall on Saturday evening, December 10, in honour of Mr and Mrs E. F. Wright. Mr Wright, who had been manager of the Bank of New Zealand branch in Taupo since it was established four years ago, was recently appointed manager of the Bank's Cambridge branch, where he took up his duties on December 15. The Mayor, Mr J. E. Story, referred to the high regard in which Mr Wright had been held in the community, and to the fact that he had given appreciated service to a number of local organisations, such as the St John Ambulance Brigade, the, Kindergarten Association, and the R.S.A. Mr Story said that in municipal matters he had found Mr Wright always willing to help with advice whenever he had consulted him, and that advice had always been most helpful and was greatly appreciated. Mr Wright would be much missed in Taupo.

Mr Story then presented Mr Wright with an envelpoe containing a parting gift from the people of Taupo, and asked Mr Wright to accept it as a token of their good wishes (applauseV Mr Wright, in returning thanks on behalf of Mrs Wright and himself,! said that their time in Taupo hadj been a happy one, and they would always look back on it with pleasure. • He took the opportunity of introduc-. ing his successor Mr C. Colson, formerly accountant at the Bank's Papa- ' kura branch, and said he was veryi pleased that the Bank authorities had j seen fit to send one of their "bright boys" to take charge in Taupo : (laughter and applause). The gathering joined in singing ( "For They Are Jolly Good Fellows," followed by cheers for the guests of honour. Dancing was then resumed, and during the evening songs were sung by Miss Yvonne Sharp, and duets by Miss June Schmidt and Mr Dennis • Rameka. A buffet supper was served : in the Supper Room.
