CRICKET NOTES

Although the Taupo Cricket Club's eleven finally won their match at Rangitaiki, against Rangataiki, on December 11, it was not before they had suffered considerable shocks, Gordon Nelson taking three wickets at a cost of five runs only in under five overs. David Roberts was the only Taupo batsman to handle the bowling confidently. He just missed the half-cen-tury when caught hitting out toward the end of the innings. Nelson finished with 3 wickets for 33 in 11 overs, while Warwick Bull was steady to take 5 for 9 in less than 10 overs. The Taupo total of 76 was well outside the reach of Rangitaiki who found the Taupo ' bowling difficult. Ray Braddock bowled particularly well to take 4 wickets for 4 runs. Ray Nathoo took 2 for 2 runs and Jack Nathoo and Dudley Johnston 2 wickets for 4 each and the home team could only muster 14 in their opening knock.

Taupo declared their second innings closed with 8 wickets down for 95 runs. Jack Nathoo retired for 46 and David Roberts for 22, whilst Pat Dixon was 11 not out. In Rangitaiki's second innings Warwick Bull got going with a hard hit 20 and the team improved to reach a total of 41, leaving Taupo winners by 116 runs. Jack Nathoo took 5 wickets for 3 runs and Ray Braddock 2 for 5.
