SCHOOL HALL PROJECT
Home And School Gala Day Next Thursday ' I The Taupo Home and School Association has decided that all money s raised at the gala day to be held at the School on Thursday, December 1, ! are to be set aside toward a fund for the erection of a School Hall. Such a hall is almo'st a necessity at the present time, not only for use as an assembly hall but also for the holding of many school functions. It would open the way for an extension of school activities, usually associated with schools, such as the establishment of a gymnasium, which are at present not undertaken for want of a suitable building. The School Committee is at present making preliminary enquiries as to cost of a suitable building and where it could be sited. In the event of the scheme meeting with the approval of the Education Board a £2 for £1 subsidy is payable on all money raised, so that one-third of the cost only would have to be provided by the committee. Although no decision can be made yet as to whether the project will go ahead, it is obvious that if it does a fairly large sum of money will be required, and it is to give support at this early stage that the Association has decided to set aside the gala day proceeds as mentioned. In the event of the plan not being pro.ceeded with the gala day moneys would revert to the ordinary funds. The Association urges all parents and the public to assist by attending the gala day next Thursday afternoon and evening. In addition to its value to the school a hall of the size con•i templated would, it is considered, prove a very valuable adjunct to many local organisations outside the school.
