STREET SEALING SCHEME

Expenditure To Date At the Borough Council meeting on November 16 the Town Olerk, Mr S. Torepe, presented a statement showing the expenditure up to October 31, 1955, on streets reconstruction in preparatiou for sealing, which had been asked for at the previous meeting of the Council. The statement showed expenditure on the streets to be sealed as follows: Kaimanawa Street : Re-formation (Messrs Taylor and Culley), £1034 11s lOd ; pumice spreading (council vehicles), £198; quarrying and spreading pumice (C. E. Baker, Ltd. ) , £329 6s 8d ; total, £1561 18s 6d. The cost of the work on and sealing of Kaimanawa Street is to be borne by the grant of £8000 made by the National Roads Board for sealing on Waiariki Road and Kaimanawa Street. liilie Range Road : • Re-formation (Messrs Taylor and Culley), £1259 17s 9d; pumice spreading (council vehicles), £110; quarrying and spreading pumice (C. E. Baker, Ltd.), £189 6s 8d; total, £1559 4s 5d. Heuheu Street and Mere Road : Reformation (Messrs Taylor and Culley ) , £1227 0s 3d ; pumice spreading (council vehicles), £198; quarrying and spreading pumice (C. E. Baker, Ltd.), £305 6s 8d. Miscellaneous : Re-formation, Taylor and Culley), £810 4s 7d. The Mayor, Mr J. E. Story, in roply to a question, stated that the miscellaneous item did not come under the street sealing expenditure, but referred to work on various other streets. Cr C. J. Vedder asked whether the statement showed the full expenditure up to date on the roads being prepared for sealing, the Mayor saying that that was so, with the exception of the cost of the watering. Replying to Cr Young, the Mayor said the cost of Rifle Range Road, Heuheu Street and Mere Road would be charged against the street sealing loan (£10,000). The expenditure shown in the statement on these streets to October 31 totalled £3289 11s 4d. The total on the preparation for sealing, including Kaimanawa .Street, was £4851 9s lOd, which was shown as being (up to October 31) an axerage expenditure per chain of £18 13s 3d.
