ANNUAL MEETING OF MOTOR BOAT CLUB
There was a fair attendance at the annual general meeting of the Taupo Motor Boat and Aquatic Sports Club held in the Wai' Memorial Hall Supper Room, the Commodore, Mr J. T. Hogan presiding. Mr A. G. Wilson took the chair for the election of officers, after which Mr Hogan resumed the chair. The Commodore's report stated that the past season had been a successful one. The balance sheet showed a pleasing result for the season. Among highlights of the season had been the Boxing Day Regatta, proceeds of which, in thc vicinity of £235 had gone to the Citizens Queeu in the Sports Ground Queen Carnival contest, as had proceeds of the usual Boxing Night dance, about £100. The Club had then sponsored the Lake swimmers, Misses Margaret Sweeney and Patricia Hastings, for whom trophies, and a cheque for £50 for Miss Sweeney, had been provided from donations received from the public. Their thanks were due to Mr J. W. Birnie, of the Spa Hotel, for his generosit3r in providing acCommodation for the swimmers. The Easter Regatta" to mark the close of the season had been particularly successful. The Lake swimmers' trophies had been presented at a dance after this regatta, run in conjunction with the Crusader Marching Girls' Club. to whom they were grateful for their friendly co-operation in providing meals for visiting boat owners and in running the dance. They owed a great debt of thanks to the Legion of Frontiersmen for their assistance in connection with gate-takings at the regattas. Negotiations in connection with the establishment of a club house had been undertaken and they hoped to be able to carry this project to fruition and establish something worthwhile for the boating fraternity. A highlight of the next Boxing Day Regatta, it is planned, will be an attempt to break the Australasian record for the measured kilometre. This will be made by Mr L. Griffen, of Auckland, in the Taupo built craft "Susan Leigh," which races under the joint names of Mr Griffen and Mr D. A. McLeod of Taupo. The attempt will be in the unlimited unrestricted class, Susan Leigh being powered with a 1400 h.p. Allison Aero engine. The record for this distance in this class is at present held by Mr L. B. Southward, of Wellington, with "Redhead," at a speed of 101.26 m.p.h. The election of officers for the ensuing year resulted as follows: — Patron, Mr R. H. Ward; Vice-pat-ron, Mr H. W.
