Unpaid Electricity Accounts It was reported that nine electric power consumers had been disconnected recently for non-payment of their accounts. Cr Lewis enquired whether tliis had brought in the money. "They came along the same day to pay and get connected up again," the Town Glerk stated. Fayment of Rates A statement of the receipts and expenditure in the Borough's General Acount, for the first six months of Ihe current financial year, to September 30, showed that current rates paid totalled £14,237, leaving £2455 st.ill to be paid. Arrears totalling £352 had been paid, with £348 outstanding. Rate penalties paid were £32, with £43 ontstanding. Old Grader Not Sold The Council's old liglit road-grad-er, which was recently advertised for sale by tender, has not yet been sold. The Town Glerk reported that t.wo tenders only had been received, of £65 and £50, respeotively. It was considered that the grader was worth rnore than the higher tender for use as required. On the rnotlon of Cr Vedder, seconded by Gr Young, it was decided not to aecept the tener. Teachers' Housing A letter to the Town Glerk from Ihe Minister of Housing, which was before the Gouncil meeting on Oceober 21, enclosed two hooklets, one of which gave plans for flats suitable for single teachers, or married teachers without children, while the other gave plans of houses available in the Law Cust Pia n Service through the Srate Advances Corporation. The Minister stated that one county council had a two-unit 11a t deslgned estirnated to cost £2750, including land. Rentals of £2 per week for each unit for 46 weeks would cover loan charges and depreciation, etc. It was considered that single teachers, with ihe possible exception of probationary assistants, could meet that rent. The GounciJ decided to send the information to the Sc-hool Committee. Soldiers' Gemetery A letter from the Taupo R.S.A. to the Town Glerk, considered at the Council's recent meeting, advised that the Association had appointed Messrs H. B. Rickard, Gillies Smith and C. O. Sommerville as a committee to wait on the Council's Gemetery Committee in connection wi-th a pro-

Gr Vedder said that Douglas firs were hard to get and that it would be wise to have thern reserved for next year. If 100 acres were planted some 60,000 trees would be needed. Councillors mentioned larches, and the Forest Service's advice could be asked as to the species to be planted. Best Things in Life The best thing a man can expect in this world is to have a Chinese cook, a .Japanese wife, an American car and a British passport, Mr Peter Tait, former M.P. for Napier, was told on his recent trip overseas.
