Second Letter' Received
A second letter had been received by the Town Clerk, voicing objection to the loan proposal, but was out of order in that it had not been signed and was not therefore presented at the meeting. Giving this information to the Taupo Times on Friday last, the Town Clerk, Mr S. Torepe, explained that the letter, from Mr T. M. Kent, had at the foot the words "for T. M. Kent" but ithe appropriate signature had been omitted, obviously inadvertently. However, Mr Kent's intention was clear and the letter would be sent on to the Loans Board. Mr Kent's grounds of objection to the loan application was stated as being insufficient advertising in the metropolitan press and not sufficient
time for absentee ratepayers to consider the proposal ; capacity of the present plant had not yet been taxed, and there was the possibility of the installation of a further generator at the present site; the loan, owing to serious shortage of loan funds, might exliaust the borough's loan capacity and prejudice more essential expenditure. Mr Kent's letter concluded by stating that he felt a commitment of such magnitude should be submitted to a representative meeting of ratepayers and the _other necessary developments of the borough fully discussed. The Town Clerk also stated that 12 of the 84 slgnatures on the first letter of objection were those of non-rate-payers and that fact had been notified to the Loans Board.
