At the Borough Council meeti™ on Wednesday evening, October 5, aj letter from the Taupo Ratepayers' Jjj Association, dated September 30, askS ed the Council to advise the Assoc^;! ation what their policy was with re»J| gard to the Inving down of footpaUs$|j in the shopping area. The letter stated that the Assoc:-|j ation felt that with the growth of tiej town the footpaths were in a fc|j plorable condition and that tkl Council . should act to improve tMl position. Cr Lewis moved, seconded by Qr! Young, that the necessary informa-| tion be sent, the motion being caigl ' The Town Clerk, in conversatios! with the Taupo Times following tisaji meeting, stated that the Council !^|| adopted the policy that all footpatfc|| in the shopping area should be pa down in concrete. This had been doi^S where new buildings had been orectg^M and where property owners had quested, the Council paying half thra cost and the owner half. Tenders ftf! the construction of some 2| chaiis! of footpaths in Tongariro Street, as9 of about five ehains in Tuwharetflia Street, had recently been invite® closing on October 19.
