BADMINTON NOTES
The Taupo Badminton Club's championships were completed on Thursday evening, September 29, the three cups being presented by the vice-pre-sident, Mr Peter Staines, in the absence of Mr A. Kennedy, president. The Sinclair Cup, for men's singles, was won by Mr T. Waldron; McClurgs' Cup, for ladies' singles, by Mrs 4. Gale; and the McMillan Cup, for doubles, by Messrs K. Neill and J. Arnol-d. On behalf of the club, Mr Staines presented Mr and Mrs John Gale, who were due to leave for Te Teko the following day, with a crystal set comprising water jug and tumblers. Mrs and Mrs Gale have both taken active parts in the club, and Mrs Gale lias lier name inscribed as winner on each of the club's three cups. Results of matclies played on Thursday evening were as follows : Men's singles, second round : K. Neill (-7) beat W. Davies (scr), 11—5. Semi-finals : T. Waldron (-10) beat J. McLeod (-2), 11—7; K. Neill (-7) beat J. ,Stevenson (-9), 11 — 7. Final : T. Waldron beat K. Neill, 11—4. Ladies' singles, first round : Mrs G. Davies (-6) beat Mrs D. Coley (7), 11 — 7. Semi-finals : Miss N. Jenkinson (5) beat Mrs M. Douglas (-4), 11 — 1; Mrs E. Gale (-6) beat Mrs G. 1 Davies (-6), 11—9. Final: Mrs F. Gale beat Miss N. Jenkinson, 11 — 5. Doubles, second round : K. Neill and J. Arnold beat J. Stevenson and Miss N. Jenkinson, 15 — 14; N. Williams and R. Bjorngaard beat W. Davies and Mrs Davies, 15 — 10. Semi-finals : K. Neill and J. Arnold beat J. McLeod and Mrs E. Gale, 15 — 13 ; N. Williams and R. Bjorngaard beat I. Craig and N. Hatton, 15—10. Final: K. Neill and J. Arnold beat N. Williams and R. Bjorngaard, 15 — 11. Amended result, men's singles, first round, played on the previous Thursday, N. Williams (3) beat C. McGreevy (-4), 11 — 1. ^
