Ccuncil Buys New Truck The Council recently added a new truck to- its fleet of motor vehicles. The new vehicle is a Oanadian Ford "pick-up" for the CounciTs Electrical Department, the purchase price of £1037 being included in the schedule of accounts passed for payment at the recent meeting. - ■ Films and Music in Motor Camp The Gouncil had before it recent# a letter from Mr Ewen Forlong, of Te Awamutu, seeking permission to show films and to put sacred hyrnn records over a loudspeaker in the Municipal Camping Ground during the Ghristmas holiday period. Councillors recalled complaints made by a number of campers last year with regard to the noise made by such use of the loudspeaker. It was decided to reply that films might be shown but that no music or acldresses were to be put over a loudspeaker in the Camp. Freight Depot Application An application by Goodsons, Ltd., for a permit to erect, on tfreir section on the northern corner of Ruapehu and Horomatangi Streets, a prefabricated steel building for a freight depot, was refused by the Council on September 21. It was pointed out that the section was in the briclt area and that a similar application had alroady been declined for such a building in that area. Memorial Hall Stage A letter to the Council from the Taupo Dramatic Society stated that it was considered that the slope of the apron in front of the stage was too steep and that it was a danger, particularly to dancers, and suggested some corrective measures being taken. Councillors considered that the apron was not part of the stage, pointing out that its slope was specially designed to permit of good vision from the flat floor of the hall. It was decided to reply pointing this out and that in any case the Council was not in a position to make such a major alteration. Miniature Rifle Range A letter from the Taupo Troop. Legion of Frontiersmen, seeking permission to establish a miniature rifle range for the use with .22 rifles., was before the Borough Council's recent meeting. Other Troops were said to have received permission for similar ranges within boroughs. Councillors were sympatheic, but it was decided that the application be deferred to euable the Works Gommittee to inspect the proposed site and report to the Council. No Traffic on Sports Ground The Mayor, Mr J. E. Story, stated at the Council meeting on September 21 that notices were to be erected regarding traffic on the newly-sown Sports Ground. Recently . someone had been walking across the ground every morning, and on one occasion a horse had been taken in and tied upon the newly-formed ground. The Mayor said they would not allow the ground to be spoiled by a few, after the people had contributed generously to its formation. Si reet Lights Cr J. M. Stanley raised the matter of street lighting at the Borough Councirs meeting on September 21. He said that this was perhaps likely to be overlooked because it did not bring in revenue, but he considered that something should be done and he would like to see more lights. The Mayor said he thought they coulcl arl'ange to have a few put up from time to time.
