BRIGADE DISPLAYS NEW FIRE ENGINE
The Taupo Yolunteer Fire Brigade's new Landrover fire engine was demonstrated to an interested gathering at the WharDat 11 a.m. on Saturday last. Acting-Superintendent Ross Douglas stated that the Brigade members were very pleased with the new machine, which was speedy and manoeuvrable. Also in action were the independent trailer pump which is towed by the Landrover, the old "Mule" and the V-8 trailer pump. Nine jets of water were used in the display, two from the Landrover, two from the new trailer pump, two from the "Mule," and three from the V-8 trailer pump, and two more could have been used. A new item of equipment shown was a nozzle which can be adjusted to provide a norrnal straight jet of water, or a spray emitted at right angles to the nozzle, the latter being designed for all-round coverage in such situations ' as a room in a burning building, and having the advantage also of providing a screen for the fireman operating it. Adjustment enables the output to be adjusted to any degree between an all-round spray and a straight jet.
