The new Landrover fire engine delivered to the Taupo Volunteer Fire Brigade last week. Specially designed for New Zealand conditions the engine is fast, and with front and rear axle drive can be driven over rough terrain. In addition to using its forty-gallon tank supply the engine pumps from any available supply. The engine also has a trailer equipped with a Standard Gwynn pump, which can be lifted from the trailer by two men, and can pump water from any source within several hundred yards of a fire. The old "Mule" engine, which has a 400 gallon water supply, is also being retained by the Brigade until water reticulation is available in Taupo. The Brigade intend giving a public demonstration tomorrow, Saturday, at 11 a.m. at the Wharf, Taupo. —Gillies Smith, photo.
