TAUPO SCHOOL ROLL NUMBERS IN NEXT FEW YEARS
The South Auckland Education Board has asked headteachers and principals of post-primary schools in its district, including the Taupo District High School, to make a survey to determine what future roll numbers at their schools are likely to be up to the year 1959. A similar survey was made in 1954,and the returns were of great assistance to the Board in determining immediate accommodation requirements, and assessing probable neecls in the following two or three years. The Board states, however, that owing to extensive land, industriai, hydro and other development in the Board's area, there has been a con-J siderable movement of population, and as a result the school roll forecasts for 1956 and 1957 are now in ufgent need of revision. The Taupo School will shortly circulari.se parents in Taupo, who will be asked to fill in on a form details from which the School authorities will be able tc calculate the numbers of pupils likely to be attending the school up to 1959. Parents who know of neighbours, with children who are all under school age at present, will be asked to make a' note of these families, so that the school may ascertain the numbers likely to be sent to school later. Mr. Foote, headmaster, stated in conversation with the Taupo Times, that past experience indicated that parents would willingly co-operate in supplying the information required, knowing its value in enabling School accommodation needs to be planned by the Board in advance. Taupo is one of the towns whose growth makes this need for looking ahead particularly important.
