TAUPO MAN INJURED IN CAR ACCIDENT
A well-known Taupo resident, Mr Arthur Kennedy, Field Officer of the St. John Ambulance Brigade, was admitted to Rotorua Hospital on Friday afternoon last following an accident at about 3.15 p.m. on the Roto-rua-Taupo Highway about three miles north of Mr Don Hussey's residence at the Forty Mile. Mr Kennedy's condition was later reported to be satisfactory, and X-ray examination showed that no bones were broken. Mr Kennedy was returning to Taupo alone, when his car left the road and crashed into a bank. Mr Kennedy had been delivering first-aid lectures. Passing motorists travelling north saw dust settling from the impact of Mr Kennedy's car and were quickly on the scene to remove him from the front seat. He was suffering from a blow on the forehead. A Taupo resident who was also on the scene before Mr Kennedy was taken out of the car returned to Mr Hussey's house and rang the Taupo Telephone Exchange for medical assistance and the ambulance. The ambulance of the Taupo St. John Ambulance Brigade had earlier taken a patient to Rotorua, and there received a message within 20 minutes of the occurrence of the accident. It reached the scene about 4.45 p.m. and took Mr Kennedy, who had meantime received medical attention, to hospital.
