Siate Houses A letter to the Borough Council from the State Advances Corporation. Hamilton, received at the reeent Council meeting, enclosed a supply of application forms for State houses. These are available at the Council offices for anyone interested in applying for a State house in Taupo. Cr J. M. Stanley stated he had three applicants for State houses. The Corporation manager's letter star.ed rhat if sufficient urgent applications were in hand by the end of the year, the question of State house buiiding would receive serious consideration. Street Sealing Prospects At the recent Borough Council meeting Cr J. E. Barton asked what were the- prospects of getting the proposed street sealing done before the dust season. On a recent day he had noted the dust flying and with the extra width now formed dust would be worse if the sealing were not done. The Mayor, Mr J. E. Story, said that materials for the sealing were available, chips from Ongaroto for delivery by the end of November. It was hoped to have the first sealing coat, for which Lake grit . would be used, on before Christmas. Traffie Control The Borough Council has been advised by the Transport Department that as from September traffie control in the Borough will be the direct responsibility of Chief Traffie Officer B. P. Muggeridge, with headquarters at Rotorua. Headquarters for the Taupo area have hitherto been locatin Hamilton. Motor Camp Grading The Borough Council has been advised by the Automobile Association, Auckland, that authority has been given for listing of the Counci-Ts Municipal Motor Camp under a two-star classification. The Association's letter states tbrat it is- a source of much satisfaction to learn of the steady improvement in facilities which is being made. Hospital Fire Risk A letter from the Taupo Volunteer Fire Brigade to the Taupo Urban Fire Authority, read at the Borough Council meeting on September 7, referred to the water available for fireflghting at the Taupo Hospital. There was a storage tank of approximately 7000 gallons capacitv, but this was of no use in the event of a fire at the Hospital as only outlets were two pipes, each of threequarters of an inch. The Brigade recommended the installation of a four inch outlet and hydrant, the siting and type of which should be determined by the BrigadeOn the motion of Cr K. O. Lewis the Council decided to take the matter up with the Waikato Hospital Board. Iiiver Ganie Sanctuary Mr- S. A. McNamara, Conservator of Wildlife, Rotorua, acknowledging Ihe Borough Council's request that the Waikato River from the Lake outlet to the Control Gates Dam be de/clared a sanctuary, states that he has forwarded the request to his Head Office for their consideration. Mr McNamara states that he feels the Council have a good case for inclusion of the area among the wildlife refuges in the Taupo district. Mule Fire Engine A letter to the Borough Council, from the Dominion Fire .Service Council, "confirmed that the old Mule fire engine is to remain at Taupo until water reticulation is installed. On delivery of the Land Rover fire engine the Mule would be treated as supernumerary to the local establishment, and the decision to permit the Mule to remain must not be taken as authorising capital expenditure on extension of the fire station.
