NEW HIGH SCHOOL MAY BE READY BY 3RD TERM NEXT YEAR
The Taupo District High School Committee recently asked the South Auckland Education Board for information as to progress with the planning of the new secondary block to be built on the Waiariki (Spa) Road site. It was pointed out that present school accommodation might he overtaxed at short notice owing to prospects of new timber mill and geothermal activities. A letter has now been received from Mr K. C. M. Cockerill, the Secretary-Manager for the Board, as follows 44You will doubtless krow that as the result of an overseas ffisit by senior offieers of the Education Department, it has been decided to proceed with a new type of plan for school building. These plans have already been prepared in a prototype form for the larger type of secondary school, but some adaption has been necessary to fit them for use in small - er secondary schools and district high schools"Our architect has been working on this problem and recently submitted a suitable type of plan to the Education Department, Wellington, for approval. As a result of his discussions sketch plans have been approved, and our architectural staff are now proceeding with working drawings and it is hoped to call for tenders for work in a fewT weeks' time. "I cannot yet give a firm date but you may be sure no time will be lost. It is even more difficult., of course, to forecast the date by which these rooms will be ready, but it does seem possible, depending of course on local building conditions, that we may be able to get them done by the second or third term next year. I will keep you posted with advice as to developments."
