UNCONTROLLED DOGS
Further reports indicate that uncontrolled dogs are still causing considerable annoyance in the town. A number of cases of dogs which persistently run out at passing cyclists have been mentioned, a form of annoyance for which action will be possible when the Dog Registration Bill now before Parliament becomes law. At the Taupo School recently a dog knocked a little girl down and frightened her considerably, by licking her face until driven off. While this dog was apparently in playful mood, another small child was frightened by a dog which was showing signs of savageness until driven off. Steps are being taken to get rid of dogs from the school grounds. When a round-up of nn registered dogs was made in Tongariro Street recently (see front page picture in this issne), one dog was wearing a substantial ornamental collar, but this did not bear the ofiicjal metal registration plate. When the owner claimed the dog, and showed the official collar, it was explained to him that the use of the private collar was in order, provided he transferred the official metal plate to it.
