TE RIMU C.W.I.
The August meeting of the Te Rimu Countrywomen's Institute was held at Fletcher's Mill on August 3 at 7.30 p.m. The president welcomed a full attendance. The highlight of .the evening was an interesting talk by Mr K. S. Graham, headmaster of the Tauranga-taupo School, on his experiences while teaching at Mangaia, a small island in the Rarotongan group. Competition results were as follows : Fruit cake, Mrs M. Pitiroi 1, Mrs J. Donaldson 2, Mrs A. Wall and Mrs E. Armstrong equal 3; best artificial flower, Mrs Mavis Pitiroi 1, Mrs A. Wall 2, Mrs L. Heta 3, Mrs M. Ham very highly commended. Mr Graham officiated at the election of a new committee member, Mrs M. Ham, and was asked to select the most suita'ble design for the branch's banner from those submitted by members as their roll-call. I-Ie suggested combining designs drawn by Mrs S. Jordon and Mrs E. Armstrong. The saies table again claimed a lot of attention, as did the snowball, which was won by Mr Graham. Presentations were made to two members, Mrs J. Donaldson and Mrs B. Loach, who are leaving the district. Winners in the floral section presented their flowers to the judges, Mrs Graham and Mrs Schow, and to the birthday member, Mrs Addie Wall. On behalf of members, Mrs Wall thanked Mr Graham and asked liim to accept a small token of appreciation. An infofmal chat over supper, and the singing of the National Anthem, brought the evening to a close.
