TAUPO'S FIRST TOWN AND SUBURBAN BUS SERVICE
Taupo's first town and suburban bus servioe, that of Mid-Island Passenger Transport, established and ,operated by Mr S. A. Thompson, started well on Monday last, with 16 passengers on a workers' run frorn Waitahanui at 6.45 a.m. For the first town run, at 9-10 a.m., the first passenger was Mrs B. Andrews, of Rotokawa Street. Leaving the depot at Rickit's Hall the bus, resplendent in grey and white and bearing a large and colourful view of lake and mountains, proceeded on Route 1 along Tamamutu Street, up Rifle Range Road, reaching the A.C. Baths at "9.20. - From there it travelled via the Spa (Waiariki) Road and Huka Street to the Ministry of Works Settlement, and thence back to the depot at 9.40 a.m. \ On its second town trip at 9.45 a.m. the bus took Route 3, following HeuHeu Street, Rifle Range Road, Taupo View Road, Gillies Avenue, Huia Street, Rokino Road, Taharepa Road . and Lake Terrace Road to Waipahihi, whence it continued to Matuku Street at Two Mile Bay, arriving back at the depot via Lake Terrace Road at 10.15. The 11.45 a.m. run ' eovered Route 2, consisting of Route I in reverse, and the 12 noon run was again via Route 3- | It was obvious that many residents 1 were not yet familiar with the bus i routes, and Mr Thompson commented | that "a lot of people don't know the Inames of the streets." He expressed I'confidence that an increasing number i would take advantage of the new sergvice. "There will be more passengers |as people become usecl to the idea," |he said.
