FANCY DRESS BALL
The fancy dress ball held by the Taupo Basketball Association and the Taupo Football Club in the Memorial Hall on Saturday evening last, July 9, was a most enjoyable function, though the attendance, due no doubt to the representative football match in Rotorua that afternoon, was not as large as last year's. The financial benefit to the two bodies concerned, afterpayment of expenses, amounted to some £24. The costumes were varied, ranging from historical to humorous.
The social committee is to be congratulated on excellent organisation of a bright function, with special emphasis on the delicious buffet supper. Mr. D. Rameka was master of ceremonies, and Bill Dolman's orchestra played with an enthusiasm that made for gaiety. Following the grand march the following awards were announced by the judges, Mr. and Mrs. G. Foote and Mrs. C. Badeley: — Best fancy costume : Lady, Miss Yvonne Sharp ((Queen Elizabeth) ; I gentleman, Mr. G. Vedder (Clown).
