Tauhara Cup Contest " Good net scores of 71 and 74 respectively for a total of 145 enabled N. Kerr and G. Sutherland to finish three strokes , ahead -of the field in the popular Tauhara Cup contest on Saturday. Weather conditions were good, but a" succession | of heavy frosts had made the greens very tricky, and good scores were well earned. Following the winners were : K. Rameka and P. Brown, 72 — 76, 148; H. Fearn and, L.( Holdsworth, 71 — 79, 150; E. Ryan and L. E. Pearse, 72 — 79, 151. On Saturday, July 2, a small field turned out for the four-ball knockout competition. A feature of the afternoon was an excellent one-over-par round of 73 by E. Smith. Now on a four handicap, Smith has been playing excellent golf during the past few months. In this match he was partnered by G. Potts, and they proved too strong on the day for N. Kerr and E. Ryan, winning, 6 and 4. D. Logan and G. Sutherland beat K. Young and F. Sherning, 4 and 3; K. Rameka and J. Hurrell beat W. T. Irvine and J. Woodward, 4 and 3; H. Fearn and L. Holdsworth beat T. Price and L. Smith, 1 up. G. Barlow and L. E. Pearse, who had a bye in the first round, subsequently met E. Smith and G. Potts, and after a great game, square at the 18th, won on the 19th. This match will be advanced to the final stage to-morrow, July 16, wnen there will also be a four-ball bogey match for those not still in the c'ontest. On Thursday, July 7, the ladies played a bogey match. The winning score, that of Mrs. Bennett, was one down on bogey. Her score, 97 — 30, 67, reduced her handicap to 26. Other scores were: Miss Branson, 2 down; Mrs. Fearn, 5 down; Mrs. Young and Miss McKelvie, 7 down.
