TAUPO DEFEATS MAROA
Extra Time Required In the match at Maroa on Saturday last extra time was needed for a result to be obtained in the first round mateh of the knock-out tournament between Maroa and Taupo. Maroa attacked from the start and after 10 minutes of pla,y they were awarded a penalty kick which was goaled by Seymour to give them a 3 — 0 lead. Shortly afterwards Taupo were awarded a penalty and Knight converted to square the account. Gavern then led an attack into Taupo territory, but he was forced into touch. A penalty kick awarded to Maroa was missed by Seymour. Both sets of forwards were throwing the ball about and each side attacked in turn, with Maroa generally in the ascenrtant. Maroa took the lead aga*n when Baker side-stepped his opposite number and passed to Gavern who went round his man to score and take the scorje to 6 — 3. Seymour's kick failed. Taupo scored again when when after a 25 yard run by the' backs had broken down. Daley picked up the ball and ran over. Knight failed with the kick, but extra time was now necessary to obtain a result and after five minutes Taupo carried the ball over the Maroa line from a flve-yard scrum and Bob Davis fell on it to put Taupo into the final. The Taupo backs revealed a lack of ability to tackle, but Dalev played an excellent game-
