Weighing Machines

Sir, — The local Councillors in their wisdom have decreed that all business signs, weighing machinesf etc., must be removed from the footpaths in order to avoid any claims for damages that might ensue from absentminded pedestrians. I presume that the next logical step is to remove power poles, verandah posts and rubbish bins also, as constituting an even greater menace. 'No doubt our major cities will take a leaf from our local book, and remove peremptorily the newspaper vendors from the main streets. Like the ripples in a pond we might even have repercussions in London, vide the Embankment or the Bois in Paris. At a glance, the prospects appear endless, and this, all this, the brain child of our worthy Councillors ! I

am, etc.

R.

CASSON.
