BASKETBALL NOTES
A good standard of play was seen in the basketball games played at the Taupo School courts last Saturday. Waipahihi were unable to field a team and defaulted to Huka. Stuarts defeated Mokai 15-3, and play in this game (refereed by Miss Shona George) was inclined to be erratic. Good form was shown by R. Erskine and J. Habib (Stuarts), and by M. Hough and S. Hay (Mokai). R. Erskine's goaling was a delight to watch, and S. Hay proved her worth both as a forward and in defence. M. Hough was particularly good in her interceptions and positional play. College Old Girls defeated Spa in a very fast game, 13-4. Though a good game to watch it was unfortunately spoilt by personal contact. Outstanding players were L. Packer, F. Harris and P. Maniapoto for Old Girls, and B. Bramley and Z. Tawera for Spa. L. Packer showed herself a firstrate defence player, and Z. Tawera was specially pleasing in her clean interceptions. P. Maniapoto, who has always been relied on for accurate shooting, showed that she could work for the ball as well. B. Bramley was particularly fast and should make a very good centre rather than be played as a forward. The match between the Taupo and Tokaanu District High Schools has been deferred. The draw for tomorrow, Saturday, is as follows: — At Taupo : Huka v. Tokaanu Women, 1 p.m., referee, J. Habib; Waipahihi v. Stuarts, 1.45 p.m., referee, M. Jones; Spa v. Tokaanu Women, 2.30 p.m.- referee, S. George; Huka v. Tokaanu H.S., 3.15 p.m., referee, B: Bramley. At Taurangataupo: Taupo H.S. v. College Old Girls. Mokai a bye.
