SENIOR RUGBY

Wins For Taupo and C.O.B. Some good football was seen in the United v. Taupo senior game at Taupo on Saturday last, Taupo winning 6-5, two unconverted tries to one converted try. The first score eame after about 20 minutes play, when Barry Thomas, who played an outstanding game throughout, picked up for Taupo and ran down the side-line, to pass to N. Williams after he had drawn United's fullback, Williams going over to score. Panapa's kick failed and the score remained at 3-nil in Taupo's favour until halftime. The second half was marked by play up-and-down field. United's try came soon after the start, M. Malcolm getting possession and making a fine run from between the 25 and halfway to touch down between the posts. Joe Habib made no mistake with the kick and United led 5-3. Ten minutes before time Ron Bredenbeck, on the wing, got the ball at the end of a passing rush and putting on the pace beat several men to go over near the corner. Franklin Reid was no luckier than Panapa with his kick and the final score was 6-5. Mr Gosling had charge of the game. C.O.B. v. Maroa The College Old Boys-Maroa game, played at Maroa on Sunday last, was .,won by Old Boys 15-6, five unconverted tries to one unconverted try and a penalty goal. The score was not really an indication of the general run of the game, however. Maroa had the territorial advantage for the greater part of the game. For most of the second half they played a man short in the backs, which left Old Boys with an overlap, of which they took advantage and at one stage scored three quick tries, and though Maroa attacked after this they could not make up the leeway. For Old Boys, Raukine scored twice Biddle twice and Staiton once. Maroa's six points were gained by Seymour, with a try and a penalty goal Mr D. Rameka was the referee.
