Obstructions on Footpath
* The Council recently sent a circu lar letter to businessmen with regard to goods, notices, or other obstruetions placed on footpatlis outside business premises, and asking tliat such be removed. 'In discussion arising from a letter to the Council from a businessman, it was pointed out that the Council was not pin-pricking by making this request- The position was that if business people place anything on the footpatlis which in any degree olistructed them, and if any person tripped on such obstruction or was injured in any way as a result of its presence on the footpath, the Council would be liable for damages. Councillors expressed the opinion that if business people knew that this was the legal position they would realise that. It was reasonable for the Council to ask that no such obstruetions be placed on the footpaths.
