NEW ST. JOHN AMBULANCE ACCIDENT SERVICE
Mr A. Kennedy Appointed As Travelling Instructor Mr A. S. Kennedy, Superintendent of the Taupo St. John Ambulance Brigade, has been appointed to a newly-created position on the staff of the Dominion organisation, to be known as that of Field Officer. Headquarters of the Order of StJohn has long been concerned with the lack of first aid and accident prevention instruction in reraote areas, particularly in bush and timber milling areas. In the past they have asked their Brigade Department to undertake a certain amount of this tuitional work, but they early recognised that this would place an undue strain on voluntary workers. The new appointment is the result of recent advice that the Workers Compensation Board, in conjunction with the National .Safety Association, was prepared to sponsor a tuitional scheme. Mr Kennedy will leave Taupo on May 30 for a brief period in Wellington before commencing an itinerary mainly in the North Island, particularly in the Central Districts. Mr Kennedy came to Taupo iri j.949, and was secretary and later manager of Taupo Sawmills, Ltd., jater joining the staff of Afforestation Proprietary, Ltd. In line with his interest in first aid work, he was secretary of the original committee formed in Taupo to raise funds for an ambulance, which later became the local St. John Ambulance Association. He has served on the school committee, and been secretary of the Home and School Association, Taupo Dramatic Society, Taupo blood bank, and of the War Memorial Appeal Committee, and is president of the Badminton Club. Mr and Mrs Kennedy will continue to make their home in Taupo.
