MENACE OF WANDERING STOCK ON ROADS
The problem of wandering stock on borough and county roads was mentioned at a recent Borough Council meeting. The Mayor, Mr J. E. Story, said that he had had tentative discussions with the Taupo County Commissioner, Mr A. H. O'Keefe, on the subject of horses, and other stock, on the roads. They had considered the possibility of joint action by the county and borough, in emploving a pound-keeper who would range both the borough and county areas, and utilise the borough pound. He thought that such joint action might be a good method of dealing with the menace of stock on the roads. It was left to the Mayor to go into the matter further with the County Commissioner. The Town Clerk, Mr S. Torepe, reported that on the night of April 25, Anzac Day, there had been nine horses in the borough pound. Some time during the night the wires of the fence were cut through and all the horses let out. This was the second occasion recently on which the fence had been cut.
