ANNUAL MEETING OF BADMINTON CLUB
The Annual General Meeting of the Taupo Badminton Club was held at the Taupo School on Thursday evening, March 17, the President, Mr A. Kennedy, presiding. Following reading of the minutes and presentation of the balance sheet, the President reported on the Club's past year's activities. A total of thirty club nights had been held, terminating toward the end of October. The Singles Cup had been won by Mr J. Stevenson, and the Mixed Doubles by Mrs E. Gale and Mr J. McLeod. There was a likelihood during the coming season of a visit by the Dominion President of the N. Z. Badminton Association. . Mr G. Foote took the chair during the election of officers for the ensuing year, which resulted as follows President, Mr A. Kennedy; Vicepresident, Mr P. Staines; Secretary, Mr J. McLeod; Treasurer, Mr W. Davis; Club-Captain and Coach, Mr G. A. Acres; Committee, Mrs E. Gale, Messrs. K. Niel, G. A. Acres' and J. Stevenson. The annual subscription was fixed after discussion, at £1 15s., reducible to £1 10s if paid by May 1. Shuttle-fees were fixed at 2s 6d per night for those without .rackets, and 2s per night for members with their own rackets. The opening night for general play is to be Thursday, April 14. It was reported that -a demonstration game had been played before Borough Councillors in the War Memorial Hall, but the Council's decision on the Club's request for the use of the Hall would not be known until after the Council's • meefing on March 23. A resolution was/ carried that a letter be sent to the Council stating that the Club would be prepared to assist in any way possible toward the erection of a Sports Hall.
