Paper Ceases Publication
The Wyndham Farmer, last of ^outhland's country newspapers, recently announced that it would cease publication that week. Conducted by the one family for nearly 60 years, the Farmer was established in. .1895 byN the Mataura Ensign, Gore, and two years later was sold to Mr E. G. Macpherson, who had managed it ti 11 then. Later his-son, Mr D. N. ' A. Macpherson, took over the paper, which provided a direct link with the colourful era of country newspapers in the south. It is believed to have been the last newspaper in New 'Zealand set entirely by hand.
