Annual Meeting Of Branch The Taupo Branch of the New Moaland T.abour Party held its ari- # xnial general meeting in Rickit's Hall oir Tuesday evening, March 8, the President, Mr J. M. Stanley, being in the chair. Mr R. Boord, M.P. for Rotorua, was present, and in \velcorning hira Mr Stanley referred to his untiring efforts in. learning at first hand the many problems conf ronting • the f ast-developing electorate, - , Report and Balance Sheet Beporting the year's activities, the President said that he had been proud of the manner in which members had rallied round, and that the Branch's election day . organisation hadXleft little to be desired. Taupo had\polled a record .number of Labour votes and the movement would continue to gain strength, while the not unexpected election results would spur them on to greater efforts. The main task now was to take an active interest in both national and local affairs, and to be prepared to play their part in future gei\eral elections. In concluding, Mr Stanley paid a tribute" to the work of the lady membersPresenting the, balance sheet, the Secretary, Mr J. L. Burge, expressed the opinion that members could be well satisfied with the part played by their Branch in assisting the Rotorua L.R.C. to finance the election . campaign, a substantial sum having been transferred to the^ Campaign Commitfee. It would now be nec"essary *to - improve the Branch finances. ^ Congratulating the Branch on their efficient election organisation, Mr Boord said that similar work throughout the electorate had ensur"ed that at no time had* they been embarrassed for fuhds. In giving details of assistance to the National Office by the Rotorua L.R.C. , he said that in this, and in organisation, the electorate had been surpassed by 110 other. JElection of Officers * The election of officers resulted as follows : President, Mr J. M. Stanley; vice-president, Mr C- J. Stevenson ; secretary-treasurer, Mr J. L. Burge (all unopposed) ; committee, Mrs C. Banks, Messrs Ef. . Keen, C. Banks, D. Williams ; trustees, Messrs M. Gibbons, H. Keen ; hon. auditor, Miss Wehringo; delegates to L.R.C., Messrs C. Banks and J. L. Burge. ' jMr Burge mentioned that for personal reasons he did not desire to continue in office, as he had already informed the 'L.R.-C., but he would aceede to members' wishes and con- . tinue for as long as circumstances permitted. The selection of a delegate to attend the Party's National Conference was left to a later date. The Secretary reported that present Branch membership was 07, a decrease of five on the previous year. Membership had been in the vicinity of 100, but a number of members, mainly Geo-thermal workers, had left the district. Most of the present members were permanent residents and it was to be expected that membership would increase this year, Votes of thanks were accorded to Miss Wehringo for her services as lionorary auditor, and to Miss E. Rickit for hire/of the hall at a nominal rent. The next meeting was'set down for Tuesday, April 12, meetings thereafter to be the first Tuesday in each month.
